What we do

The Milwaukie Lions Club has been active in supporting citizens of Milwaukie and North Clackamas County since 1948.  We pride ourselves on being a small but mighty organization.  While Lions as an international organization primarily focuses on sight and hearing programs, our club does more than just provide exams, eye glasses and hearing aids to those less fortunate in our community.  The Milwaukie Lions Club supports our local schools by providing needed supplies to classrooms and coordinates a Backpack Buddy program at a local elementary school.  The club also undertakes a Holiday Food Drive that provides food boxes to more than 500 local families, as well as many other activities and service projects throughout the year.  The club is always looking for potential new members who want to give back to their community.
We meet the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month on Zoom at 6:30 pm. We normally don’t have regular meetings during the summer months but you can always reach someone on our contact page.

Milwaukie Lions Club is part of Lions Clubs International, which with 1.3 million volunteer members is the largest service organization in the world, and has been serving people since it was founded in 1917. Like LCI, Milwaukie Lions has a non-profit Foundation to support our charitable work. The Milwaukie Lions Charitable Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, chartered to raise funds to support our service within the local community. The Foundation has been instrumental in allowing us to apply for grants, and to register with community fundraising efforts for nonprofits through organizations like Amazon Smile, Kroger Community Rewards, Oregon Beverage Recycling Collective Blue Bag program and Safeway Community Giving.

Since 1948 the Milwaukie Lions Club has spearheaded a Holiday Food Drive that benefits families in North Clackamas County.  Starting with only a handful of families, this project has grown over the years to include hundreds of families, serving more than 400 families in 2020.
Backpack BuddiesBackpack Buddies
Backpack Buddies in North Clackamas School District provides food to over 800 food-insecure children in the subsidized lunch program so they have food over the weekends and holidays when they can’t eat at the school. Milwaukie Lions serves one of the schools each week.
School Vision Screenings
Milwaukie Lions partner with Oregon Lions Sight & Hearing Foundation to provide vision screening to the K-6th children in the North Clackamas Shool District. In 2020 we screened 4600 students in 20 schools, referring about 1 in 10 for follow-up with their eye doctor.
