We try to hold a can & bottle collection drive every year on a weekend after New Years, St Patrick’s Day and Independence Day holidays at the former Bomber Restaurant parking lot from 9 am to 1 pm on McLoughlin Blvd. 2020 was difficult for these, but we got back in the swing this spring. Huge thanks to Pamplin Media and Clackamas Review for helping us to get the word out. We had the best can/bottle collection ever. In July we add school supplies to what we collect at this event, to help provide supplies to our adopted schools in the Fall.
The funds from this bottle drive support Lions projects such as providing glasses and hearing aids to local citizens, helping to alleviate food insecurity through our food drive and donations to local pantries and programs within our schools such as the Backpack Buddies when school is in session and providing reading books to elementary students. These are just but a few things that the club supports in the community and these funds will help us in our endeavor.
The school supply drive in July benefits local elementary schools. All items are welcome but the greatest needs in the classroom include crayons, colored pencils, Ticonderoga #2 pencils, glue sticks, pencil erasers and folders. Later in the Summer, the club, as part of their Adopt-A-School program, will purchase additional school supplies to support local students as the new, in-person school year starts.
Club members are willing to pick up donated cans, bottles and/or school supplies. Please stop by and talk with some of our club members at the event. We are always looking for new members and community partners!
